On-Point Legal Service is here to assist you with completing documents required by the court to change your name. There are many valid reasons why an individual might petition the court for a name change. Regardless of whether your reason to seek a legal name change is professional, to facilitate obtaining a REAL ID, to conform to gender identity, or because you want to stand out in the crowd, the process may be correct for you.

Real ID

Though the deadline to have a REAL ID to fly has been extended to October 1, 2021, it is still less than a year away. If the DMV has denied your application for a REAL ID because the names on the accepted documents you present don’t match, you may have no other recourse but to petition the court for a legal name change. If this is your circumstance, you may not have as much time as you think. We can help you start the process fast by quickly filing your documents with the court.

Name / Gender Change

Effective September 2018, residents of California can petition the court and may not need a physician’s letter or the need to attend a public hearing. If a person is merely seeking to change their gender marker or wishes to change their name to conform to gender identity, publishing may not be required.

Professional

Perhaps the most historically famous person to have ever sought a legal name change was Leslie Lynch King, Jr. However, at the age of 22, Mr. King successfully petitioned the court to be recognized as Gerald Randolph Ford Jr., who we now know as the 38th President of the United States of America.

Other

Other individuals may have legally changed their name to ascend in or descend from their music career. You name them as The Artist Formally Known and Prince, Cat Stevens, P.Ditty, Snoop Dogg, Terence Trent D’Arby, J. Lo, and several others. Though reasons exist that may cause a denial of a name change request, the court tends to be liberal in granting reasonable requests.
